Wil's Blog Post 2/09

Today in Hiroshima, Japan, our class visited the tea ceremony club at Nagisa High School. The architecture of the school itself is very modern and high tech, but going into the tea ceremony room is like a venture into the past, and I mean that in the best way possible. The room is simplistically beautiful. The ceremony is supposed to be silent and that way you can properly take in the peaceful atmosphere perfected by meticulous practice. This is a refreshing feeling after experiencing the busy lifestyle that Japanese people usually go through. Members of the club gracefully delivered each of us our tea after giving us sweets. This tea is different than any tea americans would normally drink. They allowed us to make our own cup of tea so we can understand the process. First they poured some tea into the cup, and next we whisked the tea until it was bubbly and a bright green color. This all natural, yet delicious tea warms your body and soul as you drink it. In the past I had visited a tea ceremony place in New York City, so I was familiar with most of what happened. But there is something awesome about being at a real Japanese tea ceremony in Japan. I feel very privileged to be able to experience this and I thank everyone who made this a fun and interesting time.
