Corry's Blog post 2/13

Today the students of CGS departed from nagisa high school, and said farewell to all of the host families as we took a bus to a ferry to Okunoshima island.

Leaving all of our host families so soon was very sad, it was very unfortunate that our time spent with our new friends had to be so finite. For such a fun, eventful week, it flew by pretty quickly. Hiroshima had a lot of interesting sights to see, I'd definitely want to go back to this part of japan again!

We spent the rest of the day at Okunoshima Island. The islands population consists of almost entirely wild rabbits! The island is virtually teeming with them, and the rabbits are very okay to being approached and pet by humans. An island of bunnies literally running around everywhere? Literally heaven on earth. My whole life had been in preperation to this day.

The island has a bit of a history of having been the site of a poison gas factory nearly a century ago. Ruins of the abandoned establishments can be seen all over the island.

The rest of the day was spent pretty much just exploring the island, which is only 4km in diameter. You could even rent a bike, see the clear water amongst the other islands in the distance, and see a shrine or too!
